IMU was officially launched in 1992 by the Malaysian Education minister, YB Datuk Amar Dr Sulaiman Haji Daud. Six leading educationists came up with the idea of studying MBBS in a unique way. They decided to put together a unique model where students spend the first 5 semesters at IMU and the balance five semesters at any of the Partner Medical Schools across the world. The uniqueness of the IMU program was that it was universally accepted as Phase 1 by some of the world’s best medical schools. Phase 2 can be completed in IMU or at any of the partner schools.

IMU then took a bold step in its plan to be a holistic healthcare provider, with the opening of the IMU Oral Health Centre. The University offers diverse programs ranging from Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Health Science, Nutrition, Psychlogy to Biomedical Science
